An iphone or an ipod?

my daughter asked me to get her a gadget that can access or download med scape that she can use in her job as a pharmacist in the philippines. if i get an iphone for her it will need a carrier. is ipod/itouch, or ereader applicable? i'm not a tech enthusiast so aybe any opinion or suggestion will help. thanks!
