I think i left my tampon in for too long? HElp!?

Hi, well this was a complete accident and im fully to blame for any consequences etc. Well, yesterday i accidently left my tampon in for like more than 8 hours.Im not sure if it was for longer or for less, but im pretty sure it was for 8-10 hours ;S. I know this is bad but i was on the phone to a friend for like a few hours helping her with some issues so i completely forgot! Yes i know this is harmful and stuff but like what can actually happen as a result of this. What are symptoms or things that i should look out for? Ive heard this is bad but im not sure what the consequences are when you do this. Should i be worried? because the past 2 days ive had like realy heavy right, but when i left in my tampon for a while yesterday ..well after the 'insident' when i left it in for too long, this morning my period has literally stopped.. so is this bad? Also the tampon wasnt 'ful' if you get what i mean so...my period usually goes for 5-6 days and its only been 4 days!!?? please dont say stuff liek ' this is really bad you shouldnt have done it' yes i know, i honestly didnt mean to, please explain to me what problems i can encounter as a result of this and symptoms of infection/ or whatever!. HELP!!!?? please!!!??
